We are dedicated to taking care of unwanted abandoned stray and feral cats and kittens and are, in a sense, a colony caregiver. However, we don’t have to go beyond our fence line to get to the the colony as it’s come to us. Cats began showing up on our doorstep hungry and emaciated so, of course, we fed them and word got around. Mommy cats were bringing their kittens over to eat and relocate the litter to our “safe” place to live. Over time, we trapped several of them and brought them to a local shelter to be spayed and neutered as well as chipped, checked over, given shots and flea treatment. We now have a total of 19 permanent residents and untold others that come for breakfast and dinner and then leave only to return for the next meal. If a cat isn’t well, we bring them to our veterinarian. (Thank goodness for Care Credit.) In 2014, we constructed a large screened-in area where 9 of our cats now comfortably and safely reside. We continue to make improvements as our finances allow. The cost of food, litter, flea prevention and veterinary bills has squeezed our budget; therefore, in hopes of getting tax-deductible donations whereby we can continue to care for our cats, we formed Nine Lives Cat Sanctuary, Inc. which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. We hope through donations that we will be able to expand and, in turn, give assistance to other cat owners in need of help.
